
Penn State Recruiting: 2025 Nittany Lions Prospect Decommits
Omari Gaines, a 3-star defensive back from New Jersey, said Friday that he has decommitted from the Penn State football 2025 recruiting class. Gaines announced his decision on social media.
Gaines committed to Penn State in March 2023. A 3-star defensive back according to the 247Sports Composite, Gaines played last season at Malcolm X Shabazz High in Newark. He played at St. Peter's Prep in 2022.
Gaines (6-2, 180 pounds) also has offers from Boston College, Duke, Rutgers, West Virginia and Syracuse, among other schools. He visited Penn State last spring before announcing his commitment. According to NJ.com, Gaines had been a frequent visitor to Penn State camps and developed a strong relationship with Penn State associate head coach Terry Smith.
With Gaines' decision, Penn State's 2025 recruiting class stands at 11 commitments. The Nittany Lions rank seventh nationally, and second in the Big Ten, according to the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
