Pitt Basketball: Syracuse HC Jim Boeheim Retires

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have battled Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse Orange for decades, but after years of classic matchups, that rivalry will come to an end. Boeheim will retire, according to a release from the program.
His last game against Pitt was a 99-82 drubbing at the Petersen Events Center, during which he was booed and ridiculed relentlessly by fans who took their comments claiming that the Panthers "bought" their team personally.
Boeheim is a four-time Big East Coach of the Year and was named the consensus national Coach of the Year after the 2009-10 season. The former Syracuse player won 1,116 games as head coach of the Orange and his career ended on a last-second 3-pointer from Wake Forest's Davion Williamson.
After getting bounced from the ACC Tournament, Boeheim said he had no idea what the future held for him. Hours later, it was announced he was on his way out. Assistant coach Adrian Autry will take over head coaching duties.
