Pitt Has One of College Basketball's Best Freshmen

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers have one of the best freshmen in college basketball this year and he's started to earn recognition on par with his production as the 2023-24 college basketball season hits its third week.
On3's Jamie Shaw tabbed Carrington as one of the best pro prospects in the ACC earlier this week and now he's got Pitt's young first-year starting point guard pegged as the No. 3 freshman in all of college basketball.
"It was a triple-double that started the season off for Carlton Carrington," Shaw wrote. "But it has been his poise and skill set that has continued past that game. The 6-foot-5 Pittsburgh freshman guard is averaging 18.0 points and 6.3 assists while shooting 51.9 percent from three.
Shaw added that he thinks Carrington has natural abilities that have made him an increasingly attractive prospect to NBA front offices.
"Carrington has long arms and a natural feel for the game. He is another one whose hot start has started to catch the eye of NBA teams."
Carrington will face the biggest tests of his young Pitt career this week, when the Panthers travel to Brooklyn, New York for the Season NIT Tip-Off, where they'll play Florida and then either No. 15 Baylor or Oregon State.
