According to ESPN's Jeff Borzello, Pitt head coach Jeff Capel is only the second former Duke player to beat the Blue Devils on their home floor in the last 70 years. Maryland's Lefty Driesell was the last to do it.
In that sense, it was a historic win for Capel, who started for four years at Duke and even reached a national championship game in 1994, but he brushed off any notion that beating his alma mater means anything more than just picking up an ACC win. The Panthers needed to notch a win and that is all that matters.
"Look, I’m happy for my players. It doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s an ACC win, it means a lot because it’s an ACC win. I don’t have any personal feelings where it is personal for me against Duke. This place means a lot to me, it always will, I’m just glad we got an ACC win. I’m glad we got a win."
