Report: Pitt F To Redshirt Freshman Year

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers will hold back one of their 2023 recruits from game action this year and preserve a year of eligibility for him.
According to a report from George Michalowski of Pittsburgh Sports Now, Pitt freshman Marlon Barnes Jr. will redshirt his first season as a Panther.
Barnes arrived at Pitt as a three-star recruit out of Brush High School in Cleveland, Ohio. He held offers from Cleveland State and Miami, plus interests from Xavier, Rutgers, UCLA and UNLV, before committing to the Panthers. Barnes, a 6'6 and 190-pound small forward, was ranked as the No. 8 player in Ohio coming out of high school last year.
As a wing, Barnes is stuck behind some players on the depth chart who are almost certain to take up large shares of minutes. Neither Blake Hinson, nor Zack Austin will sit for very long and when they do, Will Jeffress and Jorge Diaz Graham have been the top options for head coach Jeff Capel off the bench.
