Two Charges Against Pitt G Dior Johnson Upheld at Preliminary Hearing

PITTSBURGH -- Entering his preliminary hearing this week, Pitt Panthers guard Dior Johnson was facing six assault charges from an incident dating back to September. Following the hearing, four of those charges were dropped, according to a report from Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Charges for aggravated assault, false imprisonment, intimidation of a witness and unlawful restraint were dismissed. One charge of misdemeanor simple assault and one felony strangulation were upheld. Johnson's attorney, Bob Del Greco said the formal arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 7, when Johnson will get a judge assignment and notice of a pre-trial conference.
Pitt suspended Johnson indefinitely following his arrest and in a statement Pitt athletics said that his status has not changed. Carter reported that it is athletic department policy to uphold suspensions as long as a player has a felony charge filed against them.
