Damar Hamlin Honors First Responders With Scholarship Fund

PITTSBURGH -- Former Pitt Panthers safety Damar Hamlin makes his return to Cincinnati this week, the place where he suffered a cardiac arrest and was saved by the heroic work of first responders on the field of Paycor Stadium. 

Ahead of the first game between the Bills and Bengals since that landmark night last January, the former Pitt standout, Hamlin, has found a new way to honor the people who saved his life. His charitable organization, the Chasing M's Foundation, announced that they will be awarding 10 scholarships - each named after a different first responder, doctor or nurse who cared for him - to children in the Cincinnati area. 

"I'm humbled by the opportunity to set up a scholarship program to honor this team of professionals - my Cincinnati heroes - who helped save my life," Hamlin said. "Today, as I look at honoring these Cincinnati heroes and lifting up young people who are trying to find their way, I'm reminded of the enormous blessing I've been given through my charity and the generosity of people around the world."

Hamlin added that he was inspired to enact this initiative after receiving a scholarship to attend Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, which launched a successful football career there, then at Pitt and now in the NFL.
