Pitt Gets Five Players Active for Spring Game

After entering the weekend questionable, the Pitt Panthers got a handful of players active for the Blue-Gold Game.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt Panthers entered the weekend with half a dozen players labeled as questionable or probable to play in the annual Blue-Gold Game and as they stepped onto the field for warmups, they got some good news.

Of the six players whose status were in question going into gameday, five were dressed and warming up with the rest of their teammates. For the Gold Team, cornerback Tamarion Crumpley, wide receiver Israel Polk and defensive tackle Sean FitzSimmons were active and the Blue Team will have defensive tackle Nahki Johnson and running back Derrick Davis available for the spring game.

This is a big day for Johnson and FitzSimmons in particular, who are battling for starting jobs in a defensive tackle group that took a hit with some offseason attrition.

Crumpley is also in a position to battle for snaps at cornerback, with the Panthers looking to replace three starters who are set to graduate from Pitt this spring. Polk and Davis sit further down the depth chart, but given the pace of the Panthers' offense, will find them on the field frequently if they play well this spring.
