Attorney for Chiefs WR Rice Issues Statement
Chiefs president also comments on situation in radio interview
DALLAS – A lawyer representing former SMU receiver Rashee Rice issued a statement Monday on behalf of Rice, two days after a vehicle registered to Rice was involved in a multi-car accident.
“His thoughts are with everyone impacted by the automobile accident on Saturday. Rashee is cooperating with local authorities and will take all necessary steps to address this situation responsibly,” Royce West, a member of the Texas Senate and a managing partner at West & Associates L.L.P. said.
West’s statement did not indicate if Rice, a rookie receiver for Kansas City, had turned himself into law enforcement officials.
Six vehicles were involved in a wreck Saturday evening after drivers of a Chevrolet Corvette and Lamborghini lost control of their vehicles, a preliminary investigation by police determined. The occupants of the car registered to Rice reportedly left the scene.
Two drivers of other cars involved in the wreck were treated for minor injuries at the scene and two others were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Chiefs president Mark Donovan commented on the situation during a Monday interview on KCMO.
“In all these situations you have to wait until you have all the facts and frankly, we don’t have all the facts at this point,” Donovan said, via NBCNews.com. “The one comforting fact that we do have is that there was a multi-car crash in Texas, in Dallas, and fortunately, it doesn’t appear that anyone was hurt, and we should be grateful for that. We’ll get to the bottom of it, we’ll gather the facts, and we’ll react accordingly.”
