WATCH: Gamecock Pitcher Roman Kimball Talks To Stephen Schoch About His Debut
Roman Kimball, who had been out for over 600 days due to injury, finally made his debut for the Gamecocks this past Sunday and didn't disappoint. Pitching two innings because he was on a pitch count, he got five strikeouts and three walks and allowed no hits or runs. Kimball, who more than likely had a lot of adrenaline coming into the game, took a couple of pitches to settle in, but when he did, his stuff was great, and he spoke to former Virginia pitcher Stephen Schoch on The Schoch Factor Podcast about the debut.
Kimball said getting the news was demoralizing when he got the news he'd be out for the 2023 year but said he was able to build with the team. Getting out there in the debut, while he was super nervous, it was everything he could hope for. He joked about the videos of him walking around the mound over a strikeout and said he couldn't even remember it because he says he just blacked out, and all the emotions just took over.
Kimball stated that his intensity was heightened because of the anxiousness of coming back from injury after all that time, but the fans can continue to expect him to bring that intense energy on a regular basis. It was a dream come true for Kimball with his Gamecock debut ending with a combined no-hitter. During his time away, the most significant thing he learned was to go have fun, take the pressure off of himself, and allow himself to enjoy the process of college baseball.
