The South Carolina Gamecocks got off to a historically rare start in the SEC tournament on Tuesday morning, as they not only won their first game against the Georgia Bulldogs, but recorded their first complete game shutout in SEC Tournament history. It was an impressive outing spearheaded by the pitching performance of James Hicks, who was forced into action due to the pitching staff being derailed with injuries, and while not in desirable circumstances, he got to fulfill a life-long dream.

"It was awesome," Hicks stated after the game. "It's something I dreamed of all my life, and something I've been working towards. Really grateful for the opportunity and just wanted to leave it all out there, hold nothing back. I'm pretty happy with how it went."

Will Tippett was another standout from Tuesday, as he put together his best overall performance of his career, recording a season high three hits, including a bases-clearing triple that blew the game wide open in the seventh inning.

"I feel like I'm always confident within myself," Tippett said regarding his performance. "I've been sticking to my approach, what [Kingston] and Monte [Lee] have been telling me, and [I got] the opportunity and it worked out today. Hopefully we can keep it going."

For South Carolina, the Georgia performance was a cathartic one of sorts, as it was reminiscent of the team that at one point looked like the best team in all of college baseball five weeks ago. Mark Kingston was completely on board with that sentiment.

"I think this was our best all-around game [in the last month]," Mark said. "Today's game is about what the first 40 or so games felt where we just knew that our offense would be there, our defense would be there, [and] we would pitch at a high level," he continued. "Today felt like us, it felt like how we played baseball for the great majority of the season."

In regards to who would start for the Gamecocks against the LSU Tigers on Wednesday, Mark used one question to convey the uncertainty surrounding that situation.

"Do we have a coin we can flip?"
