Texas A&M Aggies Defensive Lineman Fadil Diggs To Enter Transfer Portal

The Aggies will lose one of their key defensive stars heading into the Texas Bowl.

Texas A&M will need to find a new starting defensive end for the 2024 season.

Defensive lineman Fadil Diggs recently told On3Sports he plans to enter the transfer portal. He will have one year of eligibility remaining with his new program.

Diggs started 12 games in 2023 and recorded 36 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four sacks. He also finished with a team-high 23 quarterback pressures.

A native of East Camden, N.J., Diggs became a fixture of the defensive line under both then-defensive coordinator Mike Elko and defensive line coach Elijah Robinson. He started eight games in 2022 before suffering a season-ending lower-body injury.

Prior to the injury, he recorded 28 tackles with three sacks. During his first two seasons, Diggs served as a rotational defensive lineman.

In four seasons with A&M, Diggs recorded 75 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

Diggs is now the eighth Aggies to officially enter the portal, joining quarterback Max Johnson, receiver Raymond Cottrell, interior offensive linemen Jordan Spasojevic-Moko and Remington Strickland, offensive tackle Chase Bistonis, defensive back Jardin Gilbert, and tight end Jake Johnson. Max Johnson, who committed to North Carolina last month, is the only player to have a new home entering December.

With Robinson leaving for Syracuse as the Orange's new defensive coordinator, Diggs could follow as the new building block in the trenches. Robinson, who will remain with the Aggies through the TaxAct Texas Bowl, told reporters Tuesday he would not recruit A&M players to join him at Syracuse while still on the roster.

Robinson added that if they were to enter the portal, that would become a different story.

“Will guys get in the portal? Yes. But until that happens, I’m not going to tell anybody to get in the portal and follow me," said Robinson.

“I am not looking to actively recruit our guys. That’s not who I am.”

Robinson said he encouraged players to give Elko and his new staff a chance before making a final decision. Elko recently hired former Florida's co-defensive coordinator Sean Spencer to replace Robinson as A&M's new defensive line coach

“I’m really proud of guys taking the time to give coach Elko the opportunity to build his staff,” Robinson said. “And get a chance to see exactly who is going to be coaching those guys. I encourage those guys on the team to do that.”

The Aggies will take on No. 20 Oklahoma State at NRG Stadium in Houston on Dec. 27.
