UCLA On The Rise, UMass Covers, Plus An ACC Game Not Involving Clemson
“Most” of TEAM TMG is peaking at just the right time. “Locksmith” has climbed out of 30 days in the hole to establish himself as “Comeback Picker of the Year.” He is suddenly four-games over .500 at 34-30-2. Locksmith wondered to a colleague this week whether he was closing in on the leaders and the answer is, sort of. Mr. College Football continues to lead at 38-27-1, followed by Herb Gould at 35-28-3. Rankman & Son got their collective heads close to even-money but slipped back to 30-34-2 after a 2-4 week. Jersey Guy continues to clean up after circus elephants at 28-36 and needs a “Judy Garland-type” comeback to salvage his season. TMG stands 165-155-8 overall.
Father Knows Bets
UCLA at UTAH (51.5)
Father notes UCLA’s emerging offense has led to three straight wins and control of the Pac 12 South Division. The Bruins have scored 107 points since their last loss and that should push this key divisional game into the “over” category.
The Pick: Over
Hawaii (-6.5) at UNLV
Father used to worry about Hawaii on the road but the Warriors this year are averaging 39 points in games off the island.
The Pick: Hawaii
UMass (+41.5) at NORTHWESTERN
There is no question NU will win this game by double digits but 41.5 seems like a lot of points for a team with a worse overall record than Rutgers.
The Pick: UMass
Son’s Picks
Texas (+7) at IOWA STATE
Son thinks the Texas defense may have turned a corner in last week’s impressive win over K-State in Austin.
The Pick: Texas
Cincinnati at SOUTH FLORIDA (47)
Son says Cincy can’t ride that 42-0 loss to Ohio State forever and needs to make a points statement to impress the selection committee.
The Pick: Over
Virginia Tech (-6) at Georgia Tech
Son says everyone needs to watch at least one ACC game this year that does not involve Clemson or half-member Notre Dame.
The Pick: Virginia Tech
