UCLA Basketball: Dylan Andrews Demoted To Healthy Scratch Vs Sharks
In the Bruins' 78-58 victory over the Long Island Sharks on Wednesday, guard Dylan Andrews, who started in their first two games, was not in the rotation.
In fact, he wasn't even active.
When coach Mick Cronin was asked if he was playing, he had this to say, per the UCLA Bruins' official site:
"No. Coach's decision."
Cronin chose not to go into detail about what Andrews did to warrant being benched, but for what it's worth, it can be assumed that something happened off the court that sparked the decision.
Andrews had been a bit erratic prior to the Long Island game, struggling in their opener but bouncing back with 18 points in their 68-50 win against Lafayette.
There isn't much clarity about if he'll be back out there for their matchup with Marquette on Monday night, but we should get a better idea of the gravity of the issue between him and Cronin based on if he plays or not.
UPDATE:
In happier news, it appears that Cronin will make Andrews available to suit up today today against Marquette, per Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times. He clarified that Andrews was indeed a DNP-CD during the LIU bout.
