UCLA Men's Golf: Bruins Sign WAC Championship-Winning Coach As Assistant
Your UCLA men's golf team has been building quite the competitive and successful culture over the past couple of years as they have been invited to some very special tournament and have forged out some elite talent in the process. The likes of Corey Pavin, Scott McCarron, Jay Delsing and more all went to have prestigious PGA Tour careers and once dawned the blue and gold in their collegiate days.
Therefore, it's only right that their program surrounds their top-tier talent with some of the best coaches available and they have been able to do just that. Their coaching staff is made up of some of the most experienced personnel in the game and as their program only gets bigger, more and more experts want to join in.
And now the Bruins have also welcomed in a WAC Champion assistant coach as well in Mason Banger.
UCLA Athletics first announced this signing via a press release.
"Banger arrives to Westwood with three and a half seasons of NCAA Division I and II coaching experience. Most recently, Banger spent Spring 2022 and the entire 2022-2023 season at Abilene Christian where he helped the Wildcats to the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Championship in their first year in the new league. It was also Abilene Christian's first men's golf conference title as a Division I program."

Banger knows the environment he is stepping in to will challenge him to use his own experiences to help these young athletes and he is ready for it. He shared his own excitement as well.
"I am excited to be joining Coach Kirakossian and the UCLA golf team," Banger said. "UCLA is steeped in athletic tradition and it has been a dream of mine to coach at the highest level in collegiate athletics. I am looking forward to adding value to a program that is continuing to climb back to its rightful place in college golf. Armen has a fantastic vision for the program. I could not be happier to have the opportunity to work under one of the top coaches in the country."
