UCLA Women's Basketball: International Bruin Retiring Midseason

This senior announced her retirement on Monday.

UCLA Bruins senior forward Izzy Anstey announced her retirement from basketball on Monday in a post on her Instagram.

She will remain with the team for the rest of the season but is retiring due to medical reasons.

The Australian spent four years as a Bruin but her career was riddled with injuries and, of course, a worldwide pandemic which prevented her from being on campus at all during her freshman season.

Head coach Cori Close released a statement following Anstey's announcement.

“Basketball has not been what she or we hoped and of no fault of her own, but she has optimized being more than a basketball player and being an elite teammate at the same time,” Close said. “She has handled this so well, and I am totally supportive of her decision.”

Anstey played in a total of 46 career games with the Bruins. The 2021-22 season was her healthiest season, she appeared in 27 games and averaged 14.7 minutes per game.

She scored a career-high eight points against Oregon State on Jan. 30, 2022, and compiled 13 rebounds against Colorado on Jan. 9, 2022.

Anstey appeared in 13 games this season with seven points, four steals, one block, and 13 rebounds.
