North Carolina reaches out to recent portal entrant

All has been quiet on the recruiting front for the UNC basketball program, as the reclassification of Elliot Cadeau and the decommitment of Simeon Wilcher mark the most recent activity.
The Tar Heels still have three open scholarships ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign, leaving questions marks about how, or if, the roster spots will be used.
One potential target is West Virginia transfer Mohamed Wague, who spoke with 247 High School Hoops, noting that North Carolina had reached out.
Wague entered the portal on Monday following the resignation of long-time Mountaineer head coach Bob Huggins.
He appeared in 28 games in Morgantown, averaging 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds over 10 minutes per game. The 6-foot-10 forward shot an impressive 74.2 percent from the floor as a freshman.
The North Carolina backcourt is anchored by Armando Bacot, Jae'Lyn Withers, and Jalen Washington, but Wague is an interesting prospect in the portal.
Bacot will exit Chapel Hill following the 2023-2024 season and Withers will have just one season of eligibility remaining, leaving the potential for Wague to cement himself into the lineup.
Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball staff currently have the No. 1 recruiting class in 2024, bringing in five-star forward Drake Powell and four-star James Brown to man the frontcourt.
The communication with Wague may be a simple check-in, but it is important to note that North Carolina is monitoring and interested in adding to their roster.
Will the Tar Heels fill out all three remaining roster spots? Will one of them come in the form of Wague?
