USC Women's Basketball: McKenzie Forbes Selected by Los Angeles Sparks in Third Round of WNBA Draft

McKenzie Forbes is staying in the City of Angels.

Former USC women's basketball star wing McKenzie Forbes has officially been drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks in the third round of the WNBA Draft with the 28th overall pick.

Forbes entered the WNBA Draft after spending one season with the Trojans, when she helped them win the Pac-12 Tournament Championship and advance to the NCAA Elite Eight, when they lost to UConn.

During her lone season at USC, Forbes averaged 14.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 38.4% from the field. She saved some of her best basketball for the end of the season with the Trojans, putting up at least 20 points in three of USC's four NCAA Tournament games. She also scored 26 points for the Trojans in their Pac-12 championship win over Stanford.

Prior to joining USC, Forbes spent her freshman season at Cal, where she averaged 5.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Forbes ended up transferring to Harvard, but could not play her first two years there because of NCAA Transfer Portal rules and the 2020-2021 season getting canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She finally got to play for Harvard during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 season, but was unable to play at Harvard in her final year of college eligibility because of the Ivy League rule that graduate students aren't allowed to participate in athletics. This brought her out to USC, much to the benefit of the Trojans.

Now, her extended college career has come to a close and she joins a revamped Sparks team. The Sparks added former Stanford star Cameron Brink and former Tennessee star Rickea Jackson in the first round of the draft. This draft class looks like they will have a great shot at improving off their 17-23 record from 2023.
