USC Women's Basketball: How JuJu Watkins Can Build On Momentum Of Women's College Hoops

The rise of women's basketball in recent years has been one of the better stories in sports. We are seeing more popularity than ever, even more so than the men's side of college basketball. Just this year in the NCAA Tournament, there was more interest in the women's side of things, simply due to the star players on the court.

One of those was USC Trojans freshman guard JuJu Watkins, who took college basketball by storm this past year. She helped lead the Trojans to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and became a sensation almost overnight.

Watkins helped with the rise in popularity but she wasn't alone. Iowa's Caitlin Clark and LSU's Angel Reese all brought their own flare to the game, helping to make the women's eventual title game one of the most watched in history, per Deron Snyder of The Grio.

"South Carolina beat Iowa for the national title Sunday – sending Caitlin Clark on her happy way – in a game that averaged 18.9 million viewers. That’s a 90% increase from the 2023 title game (when LSU sent Clark home) and a 289% increase from the 2022 game (when South Carolina beat UConn)."

The popularity of women's basketball can be directly attributed to the players on the court and the skills they have. There is more talent in women's basketball than ever and fans are showing up to witness it. Watkins will still be in college next season and should have all eyes on her again.
