USC Football: D'Anton Lynn Counting On Familiar Faces To Help Him Adjust To New Job
The USC Trojans defense should look much different in 2024 than it did in 2023. Gone is former defensive coordinator Alex Grinch, and in his place steps D'Anton Lynn.
Lynn comes over from the UCLA Bruins, where he helped transfer their defense into one of the better units around the country. He now has the challenge of turning one of the worst defenses in the nation into a contender-level unit.
However, he will have some familiar faces to work with this coming year. Two members of the Bruins transferred over to USC this offseason, including safeties Kamari Ramsey and John Humphrey.
Both players give Lynn confidence heading into his new role, and he is excited about working alongside them again.
"Having those two pieces is going to help jump-start this spring."
Having continuity within his new defense should help ease Lynn into everything. Both players know his system, what is expected from him, and how to go about things.
The Trojans' defense had trouble stopping anyone last season, but with Lynn at the helm, they are convinced they have the right person leading the way. He has a way of putting his guys into the best possible places for success, and it has helped him grow his strong reputation.
With USC looking to get back toward the College Football Playoff contention next year, Lynn will have to make his magic work, starting in the offseason. If this defense could even become average, it would be a major win for everyone involved.
