The USC Trojans will need to find a new running backs coach as Kiel McDonald will be departing for the NFL. McDonald will join the Los Angeles Chargers to work under new coach Jim Harbaugh.

ESPN's Adam Schefter was the one to break the news of McDonald's leaving.

McDonald had been with the Trojans since early 2022, making good work with the USC backs. He helped turn the USC offense into a powerhouse, and his skill set will be missed.

He is the first offensive staff member under head coach Lincoln Riley to leave the program and has been an integral part of the coaching team. McDonald is regarded as one of the best running back coaches in the country and has helped develop some strong NFL players.

The veteran has worked with Zach Moss, Travis Dye and MarShawn Lloyd, among others. His work in the backfield has shown results, and the Chargers got a good one.

McDonald will be missed by the Trojans, but we wish him all the luck going forward. The search for a new running backs coach will certainly be underway.
