USC Women's Basketball: JuJu Watkins' Prolific Night Powers Trojans Over Ohio State

The freshman phenom did not disappoint in her debut.

Your No. 21-ranked USC Women of Troy earned a huge victory in their opening game against No. 7 Ohio State, taking down the Buckeyes 83-74 in Las Vegas to kick off the 2023-24 season.

Leading the charge was freshman wing JuJu Watkins out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, who scored 32 points in her highly-anticipated debut.

Watkins, the top recruit in the class of 2023, added six rebounds and five assists to provide a well-rounded stat sheet as the Trojans earned the upset victory. The 18-year-old said that the team was determined to prove their ability to be a top team entering the season.

"I'm lost for words right now, I'm still kind of processing everything," Watkins said. "But at the end of the day, this whole team is a bunch of ballers, so whenever we get the chance to compete against a top 10 team, any team really, we're ready, we prep the right way, we do what we need to do, and we get out on the court and we show the world what we can do."

Junior center Rayah Marshall helped the Trojans dominate on the boards with 17 rebounds (!) while adding 18 points and a whopping six (!) steals.

Overall, the Trojans had 43 rebounds to the Buckeyes' 28, with 13 coming off the offensive glass.

The Trojans will be back in action Friday when they take on Florida Gulf Coast University at home at 7:00 p.m. PST.
