SI Insider: Trevor Lawrence Steps Up as Clemson Looks to Distance Itself From the Name of John C. Calhoun
SI's Pat Forde takes a look at how Clemson has been impacted by the black lives matter movement since the death of George Floyd, as star QB Trevor Lawrence will take part in a peaceful demonstration and NFL star alums Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins call for the school to remove the John C. Calhoun name from campus.

Pat Forde: Well, the winds of change continue to blow at Clemson University from the football front. Well, there hasn't necessarily been Coach Dabo Sweeney on the cutting edge of things as current and former players have been. Trevor Lawrence tweeting that he will take part in and help lead a peaceful demonstration march on that campus Saturday evening at six o'clock. And then news Friday morning that the Provost of the school has recommended changing the name of the honors college from the John C. Calhoun Honors College to the Clemson University Honors College. This is something that was really brought to the forefront by former stars Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins. Now in the NFL, John C. Calhoun was a proud, virulent segregationist during his time and a slaveholder back in the 1800s. The Clemson University campus is built on land that was once owned by Calhoun. And the school now at the urging, basically, of former players is taking steps to distance itself from Calhoun's name. So, yes, seeing that football players are finding their voice, stepping forward to the leadership roles in some of the racial movement that's been going on nationwide. And that's certainly the case at Clemson University and elsewhere.
