Carlson Reed Tops MLB Draft Combine Spin Rates
Carlson Reed, WVU's right-handed closer, made a name for himself in the MLB Draft Combine. Heading into Arizona this weekend, Reed had seven saves, tied for the third-highest total in WVU baseball history, this season. He also posted a career-best 2.61 ERA, collecting 60 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched. MLB.com ranked him the No. 196 draft prospect this season.
He turned heads yesterday when it was released that his spin rates topped the combine's pitchers.
Reed nabbed the four highest spin rates for a collective 2719. Sam Knowlton (South Alabama), Cole Miller (Newbury Park High School), Michael Forret (SCF Manatee-Sarasota), and Skylar Hales (Santa Clara) rounded out the top five.
