Mountaineers Shutout Hilltoppers in Series Opener

West Virginia sophomore Sam White blasts two home runs to power past Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, KY - The West Virginia Mountaineers (6-4) shutout the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (6-4) in the series opener Friday evening 4-0. 

West Virginia sophomore Sam White was x-x at the plate with two home runs and three RBIs. White put the Mountaineers on the board in the fourth with a leadoff home run and his two-run blast in the fifth gave WVU a 3-0 advantage. 

Mountaineer sophomore Logan Sauve collected a pair of hits. Sauve collected his team-high 12 run of the season after ripping a double down the left field line followed by a wild pitch and he scored on an errant throw to third. 

West Virginia starting pitcher Aidan Major registered five strikeouts in seven innings. The junior allowed just two hits and walked one to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Redshirt sophomore David Hagaman came in relief in the eighth. He struck out two and gave up a hit and a walk in two innings of work. 

The Mountaineers and the Hilltoppers will play games two and three as part of a doubleheader Saturday. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. EST and game two of the doubleheader will begin approximately 50 minutes after game one.
