What Randy Mazey Said Following the Win over Marshall
The West Virginia Mountaineers (10-7) hammered the Marshall Thundering Herd (6-10) Tuesday night 11-2.
Opening Statement
This game couldn't have gotten better. We talked about it yesterday as much as we travel and the grind that we go through, at some point you have to have a rest. And we had a rest. We didn't play Saturday - we didn't play Sunday and we didn't have to win a game on those two days, but we had to win the off days and learned that rest is really important in recovery and every pitcher that went out there after the first inning was really, really sharp. The guys that needed to rest tonight, got some rest tonight and the guys that needed to pitch tonight, got pitched tonight and they pitched really well. Had some guys in the lineup performed really well. That couldn't have gone any better on a big stage. If you’re going to have a good team, you go to win games from big crowds and this was this was awesome.
Junior Tyler Switalski's slow start to the night
He was just a little sped up and he missed a start this weekend and anytime a pitcher misses a start, he's going to be rusty coming off a missed opportunity. So, he was just a little rusty - settled in the second inning and did what he does but that wasn't unexpected for a pitcher who missed a start.
Bullpen's seven inning two hit performance
It was amazing. We retired a lot in a row, I think, there in the middle of the game. I don't know if they ever had a guy at third base after that first inning. So, the relievers that hadn't pitched in a while. They really, really killed it. That’s going to be tough to pick them moving forward in a close game because they all show that they can be really good.
