Pregame Reads
- Bill Simmons talks to SI's Richard Deitsch about rumors that he strong-armed Magic Johnson out of his gig with NBA Countdown.
- Yet another case of victim-shaming in a sexual assault case involving a football player and a cheerleader, via The Kansas City Star.
- Michael Schaffer of the New Republic thinks it will be pressure from teenagers that will ultimately get the Redskins name changed.
Starter
Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers, 4:00p.m. (Fox)
Over the green wall and in the hip, into the bullpen we go. You just can't create better optics than Torii Hunter (who said he'd die making a catch if he needed to) doing a whirly-gig over the wall chasing David Ortiz's grand slam. It's got everything: a season-turning play, a spectacular effort from the defender, the Red Sox warmup catcher making the catch, and even a classic celebration out of the security guard Saul from Homeland.

NBA Preseason
Miami Heat vs. Washington Wizards, 7:00p.m. (NBA TV)
There's been some contention about reports that Michael Beasley needed to seek treatment from punching himself in the head after he was called for a travel last week. It might be true, it might not be. What I do know is that "flagellation" probably isn't the hip new NBA celebration.
NCAA Football
Louisiana Lafayette vs. Western Kentucky, 8:00p.m. (ESPN2)
Poker
World Series of Poker: Day 7, 9:30p.m. (ESPN)
World Cup Qualifying
ESPN FC World Cup Whip Around, 2:30p.m. (ESPN 2)
There are a whole lot of balls up in the air on this, the last day of World Cup qualifying. Your best source for coherence within the sea of games and scenarios is this program, which will function as a Red Zone for soccer. Somehow the "8 yard box" doesn't quite have the same branding punch.
USA vs. Panama, 9:00p.m. (beIN Sports)
Jamaica vs. Honduras, 9:30p.m. (beIn Sports)
England vs. Poland, 3:00p.m. (Fox Sports 1)
If you thought the hubbub over Mexico's struggles to qualify for the Cup has been cantankerous, imagine the furor over in the U.K. over England's limping into position. The scenario is simple: beat Poland and qualify. Here's hoping Wayne Rooney is superstitious and decides to wear his silly little headband to Brazil.
Cyprus vs. Albania, 11:55a.m. (ESPN3)
Portugal vs. Luxembourg, 12:55p.m. (ESPN3)
Israel vs. Northern Ireland, 12:55p.m. (ESPN3)

Big Break NFL, 9:00p.m. (Golf)
Deep Bench
30 for 30: No Mas, 8:00p.m. (ESPN)
One of the most famous finishes in boxing came when Roberto Duran decided he could take no more against Sugar Ray Leonard. Interestingly, the 2000s gave us a band called Sugar Ray that induced a near identical reaction.
