Bryant Browning Says Ryan Day Hiring Chip Kelly is Like “Hiring Your Dad”

Bryant Browning and Chimdi Chekwa discuss Ohio State bringing on Chip Kelly as their new OC.

The NCAAF was left reeling when it was announced that former UCLA Bruins head coach Chip Kelly would be leaving the team to take the offensive coordinator position with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

While Kelly is an offensive mind who has worked at both the NFL and collegiate level, he could be a bit too stuck in his ways to work well with head coach Ryan Day. Bryant Browning and Chimdi Chekwa discuss this on Bleav in Buckeye Football.

"To me, it's like Coach Day just hired his dad to be the offensive coordinator, right? I mean, there's so much history. Right. So if you know, they've been working together for so many years... He basically learned football from Chip Kelly."

Despite Kelly coming over as the offensive coordinator for the Buckeyes, he is also more of a "father figure" and one who may not take kindly to his own protege telling him what to do.

"How they want to attack things, are you really going to check your dad and kind of put your foot down and make him do what you say? Chances are it's not going to work out and your dad is most likely to brush you off and kind of do the things that he wants to do, in what he sees as successful for his offense because he's the offensive coordinator."

Kelly is an older football mind and could be more in line with those types of coaches who may be stuck in their own ways. He could see Day as more of a nuisance than his boss, in a way.

Kelly is a strong offensive mind, but he will need to separate being an HC and an OC.
