Jason Campbell On NIL In College, "Players Don't Talk About Winning Championships Anymore"
Ever since the NIL deal came into the NCAA, it has seemingly changed the face of college sports. There are players who are capitalizing on their name and likeness, as they should be, but how much is impacting the way that colleges recruit players?
Jason Campbell and Taylor Davis of Bleav Network's Everything Auburn discuss how the new wave of thinking for student-athletes is changing the landscape a bit too much.
"I fear that it's only going to get worse before it gets better. It kind of feels like it's going to have to crash and burn a little bit. And I kind of think you're starting to see some of that. As you mentioned with some of these coaches deciding to depart. And yes, Coach Saban alluded to the fact that at his age he's been doing it long enough and he has achieved everything you can achieve. But I firmly believe if college football was still what it was a decade ago, you would have gotten a few more years out of Nick Saban."

The issue is that not every player has banked in on getting NIL deals, and quite frankly, some players are more popular than others. Those superstar players might be buying a bit more into the NIL idea, affecting their priorities.
"I have talked to the kids before this week and this came out of a kid's mouth. He's actually on someone's football team. And he was just like "Mr. Campbell, I'm a player in college and I'm telling you, it's no longer fun. All those guys talk about is money.' They don't talk about trying to win a championship together anymore."

Sadly, there seem to be more players who want the paycheck versus the glory. The NIL landscape is still new, but it may need some fine-tuning to ensure that colleges are not falling victim to players picking money over listening to their coaches and trying to win.
