Glover Quin Breaks Down Having to Cover Hall of Famer Andre Johnson During His Rookie Year
The 2024 NFL Hall of Fame selections have been made, and one of those selections is perennial wide receiver Andre Johnson. Johnson began his career with the Houston Texans and had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.
Johnson was a force on the field and sits at #11 on the all-time receiving yards list with 14,185 yards. He was inducted for his dynamic playmaking ability, which is something former Texans and Lions cornerback Glover Quin remembers well.
Quin recounted having to cover Johnson during his rookie year on Bleav in Lions.
"But he was the assistant DB coach, and so every time he would call me during the draft, he would say, 'Hey man, GQ, You know, if we draft you, you ain't gonna be scared to cover Andre Johnson, right? In practice, you ain't gonna be scared to cover Andre, right?' And I'm like, 'Nah, I ain't gonna be scared.'"

Quin recounts being asked if he was afraid of covering Johnson in practice if he got drafted, which he was not. However, he did not anticipate the size of the future Hall of Famer.
"And so they end up drafting me and I get to practice my first day of OTAs and they got me in the slot. And the first person I had to cover in a team in the team situation was Andre Johnson."
"And, you know, Andre was such a big guy. I was afraid to even talk to Andre. You know, I was a young guy."
Quin was so intimidated by Johnson that he didn't even dare to talk to him during practice. That makes sense considering the dynamic personality and player that Johnson was.
Though he was not in the Hall of Fame yet, Johnson was well into his career as a dynamic wide receiver. Quin eventually bonded with Johnson, but not before having to garner the courage to engage with the legendary WR.
