Durham Bulls troll Iowa football after scoring 28 runs
After bringing home 28 runs in a single game, the famous Durham Bulls baseball team had some fun at the expense of college football's favorite low-scoring offense.
Even though we're already well into spring practice and looking ahead to the 2024 preseason, the 2023 Iowa Hawkeyes football team — its offense, in particular — is still catching some flak, including from the famous Durham Bulls minor league baseball team.
After scoring 28 runs in a win against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the team took a friendly shot at the Hawkeyes in a X/Twitter post.
After building a 17-8 lead in the game, the Bulls brought home 11 more runs in the ninth inning to come away with the rout on Tuesday night.
And in the process, matched Iowa's 28-point total from last season: the Hawkeyes eclipsed 28 points just once last fall, in a 41-10 win over Western Michigan on Sept. 16.
That was a rare offensive display from the Hawkeyes, who mustered all of 15.4 points per game a year ago, the school's fewest mark since their 1-win campaign back in 1999, and the second-lowest point total in college football last season.
Iowa also ranked dead last nationally with 235.4 total yards per game on offense, but won 10 games and the Big Ten West title thanks to a strong defense that was 7th nationally in yards allowed and third in allowing just 18 total touchdowns.
