While many fans argue college football is becoming more like the NFL, one rule change proposal currently being floated could make that more of a reality, as NCAA officials are meeting to discuss the potential adoption of a two-minute warning in the sport, coordinator of officials Steve Shaw told The Athletic.

The current belief around the proceedings is that there are no guarantees that the two-minute warning would be adopted, and that the NCAA may delay a decision to be made at a later date.

It's unknown exactly how much support the idea currently has, although it should receive more attention now than it has in the past.

Should the rule be approved, it would allow teams to re-group near the end of the first and second halves of play without having to burn a timeout. It would also allow TV networks to pause games in order to add more commercials.

College football has never had a two-minute warning in its history dating back to its founding in 1869, although the NFL has embraced the rule since the 1942 season.

One major rule change college football introduced last season was to keep the clock running after first downs, ending a clock stoppage that had existed in the sport since 1968.

Analysts determined that change cut about four minutes out of the overall game time. A two-minute warning could add that time back to the total.
