The AFC East is arguably the most stacked division in football, and they’re certainly one of the most polarizing. No matter who you’re a fan of, there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic heading into the 2023-24 season.

The New York Jets traded for four-time MVP QB Aaron Rodgers, the Buffalo Bills have a perennial MVP favorite in QB Josh Allen and if Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa can stay healthy, they have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. Even the New England Patriots can never be doubted with Bill Belichick having built a dynasty and now has a real offensive coordinator in Bill O’Brien this year.

So, which of those storylines will prevail? That’s what our AFC East predictions are here to answer, but first, here are our power rankings for the division:

AFC East Predictions, Picks & Best Bets for the 2023-24 NFL Season

Seeing the Pats at the bottom of our power rankings still feels odd, but since the absence of Tom Brady, they simply aren’t the same team. Signing Ezekiel Elliott may prove to be a worthwhile addition, but that remains to be seen. As for the Jets, plenty of fans, and even oddsmakers, are high on them with Rodgers behind center.

However, they’re still an extremely young team. They may very well live up to the hype, but we need to see it to believe it first. Landing free agent RB Dalvin Cook was a huge boost, but shoring up their offensive line is a must if they want him to succeed. Until we see that happen, we’re eyeing the Bills and Dolphins to make the playoffs.

Ultimately, our AFC East predictions are focused on Allen and the Bills. Much like we need to see it to believe it with the Jets, we’re not doubting Buffalo until proven otherwise. They’ve been the class of the division the last few seasons, and if not for the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason, would likely have multiple Super Bowl appearances.

Since we’re only focused on AFC East predictions, the Chiefs aren’t a concern. Buffalo has won the division each of the past three seasons, and Allen doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. His size makes him a significant dual threat QB, which the rest of the division lacks.

Tua once had that aspect to his game, but after multiple concussions, his playstyle is far more conservative than it was when he entered the league. Allen’s ability to scramble is also significant when playing against the Jets; New York is going to be relying on Quinnen Williams and their defensive line, so the escapability is paramount.

It may not be an outside-the-box pick with them being the favorites, but the best bet from our AFC East predictions is on the Buffalo Bills to win the division (+125 at Caesars Sportsbook).
