AFC North Preseason Power Rankings
If the AFC North is known for one thing, it’s hard-nosed football. Predicated by incredible defenses and the necessity to run the ball in the cold-weather cities late in the season, no division has more physically fierce rivalries.
However, in recent years, the Cincinnati Bengals have tried to change that narrative with the high-flying offense led by QB Joe Burrow and WR Ja’Marr Chase. Even the Baltimore Ravens have changed the game with the elusiveness of former-MVP QB Lamar Jackson. While the Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t been the same since franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger retired, head coach Mike Tomlin still has yet to ever have a losing season.

That’s right, we’re going a bit against the grain by slotting the Ravens above the Bengals. As for the Browns and Steelers, Pittsburgh may surprise some fans and make a run at a Wild Card spot. Even still, it’s difficult to see second-year QB Kenny Pickett having enough game experience to make them a real threat.
It will be interesting to see how the Browns perform with QB Deshaun Watson now able to have a full season with his new team, but somehow, Cleveland always finds a way to let success slip away. Therefore, it truly feels like a toss-up between the Ravens and Bengals to win the AFC North.
There’s no denying that Cinci’s offense has caused Baltimore’s defense issues the last few matchups, but that’s still just two of their 17 games. Even still, the Ravens look to finally have an offense that can match Burrow and company. Working out Jackson’s new contract was the first domino to fall.
That led to the team acquiring Odell Beckham Jr. in free agency and then landing top WR prospect Zay Flowers in the 2023 NFL Draft. Along with RB JK Dobbins entering the season healthy and Pro Bowl TE Mark Andrews, this is the most explosive set of weapons Jackson has had around him. Beckham is a proven commodity and Dobbins was the best rusher in the NFL on a per-yard basis when he was on the field last year.
