NFL Picks Against the Spread for Wild Card Weekend

Browns vs. Texans Spread Pick: Cleveland -2.5

The first game of Super Wild Card weekend is a matchup we just saw a few weeks ago. That was a convincing 36-22 victory for the Browns, and we expect them to advance this weekend. We’re impressed with what Houston has accomplished, but rookie CJ Stroud’s run should end here.

The Texans were able to make the postseason thanks to a great passing attack. Unfortunately for them, they now face the league’s best passing defense; Cleveland allows just 164.7 passing yards per game. With Houston having little run game to speak of, that mismatch is why our NFL picks against the spread are starting with the Browns -2.5 (-115 at Caesars Sportsbook).

Dolphins vs. Chiefs Spread Pick: Kansas City -3.5

We have another rematch to finish off Saturday’s slate, but this time it will be in cold Kansas City rather than London. That’s a huge advantage when playing a Dolphins team that prefers the warmth of South Beach, especially when virtually no one is healthy.

They held their own in the final game of the regular season, but after 14 quick, first-quarter points, they were held scoreless. Key weapons like WRs Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill and RBs Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane are all less than 100% healthy, and we’ll never completely count out Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. So, we’ll be taking Kansas City -3.5 (-105 at Caesars Sportsbook).

Steelers vs. Bills Spread Pick: Buffalo -9.5

The biggest favorite of Super Wild Card weekend takes place in Northern New York, and rightfully so. Pittsburgh barely snuck into the playoffs, while the Bills are the hottest team in the NFL. After going 6-6, Buffalo has been in playoff mode for over a month, essentially needing to win out to get in.

Not only did they do so, but they won the AFC East against all odds and earned the #2 seed. What Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has accomplished with this crew is impressive, but Buffalo is simply the superior roster. The Bills beat the Steelers 38-3 just last season, and we’re adding Buffalo -9.5 (-115 at Caesars Sportsbook) to our NFL picks against the spread.

Packers vs. Cowboys Spread Pick: Dallas -7.5

We have another huge favorite on Sunday afternoon, and again, rightfully so. This time, it’s the matchup in Arlington, Texas, which plays a huge factor in why we’re backing Dallas. The Cowboys have been unstoppable at home this season, averaging a ridiculous 37.4 points per game.

Not only that, but their home success dates back even further - they’ve now won 16 straight home games. They’ve been blowing teams out, which included Week 18 to win the NFC East and earn the #2 seed. Green Bay has the worst defense of the playoff field, so look for another offensive explosion to help Cowboys -7.5 (-105 at Caesars Sportsbook) come to fruition.

Rams vs. Lions Spread Pick: Los Angeles +3.5

We don’t generally love backing so many favorites, but our underdog play of Super Wild Card Weekend is at Ford Field in Detroit. It’s the return of Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who was able to rest in Week 18. Even with LA resting starters, they still upset the #1 seed San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions had their best on the field to try and grab the #2 seed, and in doing so, we saw key starters like TE Sam LaPorta injured. While they still look set to go this weekend, it doesn’t help matters. Even if Detroit wins the game outright, Rams RB Kyren Williams can exploit their subpar defense to keep things close. So, we’re taking LA +3.5 (-115 at Caesars Sportsbook).

Eagles vs. Buccaneers Spread Pick: Philly -2.5

The final matchup is a standalone Monday Night Football game, and it’s a rematch of the 2022 Wild Card round. That was won by the Bucs, but it’s safe to say that these are very different teams now. Most notably, Tampa Bay has QB Baker Mayfield under center rather than the great Tom Brady.

There’s no denying that the Eagles have never looked worse. However, the Bucs are only here due to the NFC South continuing to be the worst division in football. They barely got over .500 after narrowly beating the 2-15 Carolina Panthers in Week 18, which speaks volumes. Philly isn’t the Super Bowl team of last year, but they can get through this first weekend.

That means we’re rounding out our NFL picks against the spread with the Eagles -2.5 (-120 at Caesars Sportsbook).
