Factor in newly-drafted RB Jahmyr Gibbs, and this Detroit offense certainly has some dynamic weapons. KC ranked just 22nd in the NFL in pass defense a season ago, so look for the Lions to sling it Thursday night.
Of course, any time Patrick Mahomes is at QB, a bet is never safe. He helps form the best QB-TE duo in the league with Travis Kelce as both are generational talents. It’s really just the defense of KC that is worrisome, and there’s a solid chance that Mahomes and company are playing catch-up in this one. It may not be quite the Super Bowl hangover we saw out of the Rams last season, but this game should, at bare minimum, be a close contest. However, we’re rolling with the Lions to cover the +6.5-point spread (-110 at Caesars).
We’re also going to have a play out on the Bears money line at -110 on Caesars. Chicago might have been the worst team in the NFL last time out, but this season should look quite different. Justin Fields appears to be a star in the making at QB and he’ll now have a dynamic weapon to throw to in WR DJ Moore. The defense should also be much improved, as it appears the Bears have a bright future ahead of them. We just don’t see Jordan Love’s first NFL game as full-time starter for the Packers going smoothly, which is why Chicago rounds out our opening NFL Week 1 picks.
