Former San Francisco Giants World Champion Has No Idea Why He Isn't Signed Yet

Former San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays' first baseman Brandon Belt hasn't been signed yet this season, and he says that he has no idea why. He also says that he hasn't gotten particularly deep in conversations with any teams.

Former San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays' first baseman Brandon Belt says he doesn't have any idea why he remains a free agent, even though the 2024 season has already started.

From SportsNet:

Former Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Brandon Belt wishes he had an answer for why he hasn’t signed with a team yet for 2024.

Belt was a guest on The JD Bunkis Podcast on Friday as the 35-year-old free agent discussed his struggles to latch on anywhere with the MLB season now officially underway.

“It’s kind of baffled me a little bit,” Belt said. “I honestly haven’t had hardly any calls at all that have gone past the point of teams saying, Hey, we’re interested, that they were just checking in. We haven’t even gotten down to talking about money with anybody or anything like that. I wish I had an answer for you. I just don’t.”

We heard earlier in the offseason about Belt getting some interest from the Texas Rangers and his former manager Bruce Bochy, but nothing ever materialized there.

Belt has played 13 years in the big leagues, spending 12 of those with the Giants and the 2023 season with Toronto. He's a one-time All-Star (2016) who helped the Giants win two World Series championships. Lifetime, he's a .261 hitter who has popped 194 homers and registered more than 1,200 hits.

Perhaps at this point, his best opportunity to find a new home this season is to wait for an injury and to see which teams call as a result.
