Houston Astros' Slugger Makes Baseball History in Lopsided Win on Wednesday

The Houston Astros rebounded from early-season struggles to clobber the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night. In the win, Yordan Alvarez busted out, hitting two home runs and setting an impressive recent baseball record.

The Houston Astros rebounded from early-season struggles to clobber the Toronto Bue Jays on Wednesday night, 8-0, at Minute Maid Park.

The defending American League West champs had 15 hits in the win, including multi-hit games from five different players. Yordan Alvarez was the biggest star of them all, going 4-for-5 with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored.

He also made some recent baseball history in the win, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Yordan Alvarez had 5 batted balls at 105+ mph today, tied for the most by a player in a game under Statcast (2015), with:

5/12/23 Nolan Arenado
9/18/22 Aaron Judge
7/16/21 Juan Soto
6/29/19 Nelson Cruz

The objective in baseball these days is to make loud contact and you can't get much louder than that. One of the most feared hitters in baseball, Alvarez is now hitting .241 with the two homers and three RBI this season.

Lifetime, he's a .294 hitter with 131 homers and 383 RBI. He made his Major League debut in 2019 and has hit 30 homers or more in each of the last three seasons. He's also posted 97 RBI or more in those same seasons.

After the win, the Astros are now 2-5 on the season. They'll enjoy an off-day on Thursday before going on the road to visit the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers.

First pitch on Friday night is set for 8:05 p.m. ET. Young righty Hunter Brown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) pitches against lefty Cody Bradford (1-0. 3.60 ERA) for the Rangers.
