Los Angeles Angels' Slugger Does Something Not Done For Last 25 Years of Team History

In the wake of losing slugger Shohei Ohtani this offseason in free agency, the Los Angeles Angels needed someone to step up offensively. Enter outfielder Taylor Ward, who has done something not done in the last 25 years of team history in the early going.

The Los Angeles Angels bested the Boston Red Sox on Friday night at Fenway Park by a score of 7-0. With the win, the Halos are now 7-6 on the year while the Red Sox dropped to 7-7.

In the win, outfielder Taylor Ward went 1-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. He hit his fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning off pitcher Tanner Houck.

In addition to the four homers, Ward now has 14 RBI, which puts him in some Angels history over the last 25 years.

Per Matt Birch of the Angels on social media:

Taylor Ward's 14 RBI are the most for any player through 13 team games since Tim Salmon (16 RBI) and Todd Greene (15 RBI) both did so in 1999.

Ward is hitting .296 this season with an .877 OPS as well. He's always been a good player, but his challenge now will be to stay consistent and stay healthy. He played 135 games in 2022 but played just 65 in 2021 and 97 in 2023. He hit 23 homers back in 2022 and if he does stay healthy, it stands to reason that he could surpass that this year.

In the wake of losing Shohei Ohtani this offseason to free agency, the team needed someone to step up offensively and thus far, Ward has provided that thump.

The Angels will take on the Red Sox again on Saturday afternoon. First pitch will be thrown at Fenway Park at 4:10 p.m. ET.
