Mookie Betts Moves to Top of Impressive All-Time Team Leaderboard on Friday
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night, 6-3, as Mookie Betts hit a record-breaking leadoff home run.
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday night, 6-3, to move to 3-1 on the young season.
In the victory, rookie Bobby Miller dominated on the mound, striking out 11 over 6.0 brilliant innings and Mookie Betts went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
By hitting yet another leadoff homer, Betts made some Dodgers' team history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com on social media:
Mookie Betts now has 29 leadoff homers with the Dodgers, breaking a tie at 28 with Davey Lopes for most in franchise history
That's an incredible feat for the MVP candidate, considering that Betts only got to Los Angeles before the 2020 season. Through four games this year, Betts is hitting .571 with three homers and nine RBI. He's got a ridiculous 1.970 OPS through just 14 at-bats.
One of the best players in baseball, Betts pairs with Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani to make up one of the most dangerous lineups in all of baseball. Lifetime, Betts is a .295 hitter with 255 homers and 765 RBI. At just the age of 31, he is already a seven-time All-Star, a six-time Gold Glover, a six-time Silver Slugger, a batting champion and an MVP winner (2018).
He's also helped the Boston Red Sox win the World Series (2018) and the Dodgers win the World Series (2020).
The Dodgers and Cardinals will do battle again on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium as Lance Lynn (STL) pitches against rookie Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD).
First pitch is 9:10 p.m. ET.
