New York Yankees' Youngster Makes Team History as Team Downs Astros Again
The New York Yankees beat the Houston Astros for the third straight game on Saturday night as Oswaldo Cabrera did something no player has done in the last 100 years of team history.
The New York Yankees beat the Houston Astros, 5-3, on Saturday night to move to 3-0 on the young season. While the Yankees are serious contenders in the American League this season, it's still surprising to see the Astros dominated in this fashion.
As has been the story in each of the first two games of the series, the Yankees came-from-behind in the victory. The team trailed 2-0 after two innings but scored a run in the third to make it 2-1. Down 3-1 in the top of the seventh, they scored three times in that inning to take the lead for good.
In that seventh inning, youngster Oswaldo Cabrera hit a go-ahead home run and with it, he accomplished something not done in the last 100 years of team history.
Per Katie Sharp, who covers the Yankees:
Oswaldo Cabrera
Oswaldo Cabrera is the only Yankee with multiple game-tying HR in 6th inning or later in the team's first 3 games of the season over the last 100 years.
Cabrera's home run came off of hard-throwing reliever Bryan Abreu, who gave up three runs in the loss. All in all, Cabrera was 1-for-4 with the homer and two RBI. He's hitting .538 through the first week of the year.
Marcus Stroman earned the win in his first Yankees' appearance.
New York and Houston will play again on Sunday afternoon at 2:10 p.m. ET. Clarke Schmidt takes the ball for the Yankees while young right-hander J.P. France toes the rubber for the Astros.
