After going hitless through the first five games of the season, Anthony Rendon of the Los Angeles Angels is sitting on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins.
Erica Weston of Bally Sports posted the Halos lineup on social media.
Last one from Miami. Sandoval on the mound:
Luis Rengifo is playing third base and hitting in the leadoff spot, where Rendon has been hitting. The team is utilizing Mike Trout at designated hitter but Rendon is available off the bench.
It's been a rough going for the former All-Star, who is now 0-for-19 on the season with five strikeouts and only one walk.
One of the worst contracts in baseball, Rendon has played fewer than 60 games in each of the last three seasons with the Angels. He also made news this offseason when he discussed how little he actually enjoys playing baseball.
Rendon is in his 12th year in the big leagues with the Washington Nationals and Angels. He helped Washington win the 2019 World Series and led the majors in RBI (126) that season. He has led the National League in doubles twice in his career but none of that has translated to the Angels, where he has only homered 13 times since 2021.
The Angels enter the matchup on Wednesday at 3-2 overall. They will send left-hander Patrick Sandoval to the mound against the Marlins, who are currently 0-6. A.J. Puk will pitch for Miami, with the first pitch coming from loanDepot park at 1:10 p.m. ET.
The Angels will go home to host the Red Sox on Friday.
