Los Angeles Angels Apparently Interested in Former American League Batting Champion

After being let go by the Chicago White Sox, infielder Tim Anderson is reportedly drawing interest from the Los Angeles Angels.

Former Chicago White Sox infielder Tim Anderson is reportedly drawing strong interest from the Los Angeles Angels in free agency.

The report came from Bob Nightengale of USA Today:

The Angels are expressing strong interest in shortstop Tim Anderson, who was cut loose by the White Sox, and could convert him to second base.

Anderson had a $14 million option declined by the White Sox, allowing him to become a free agent.

It's not surprising to see the Angels' expressing interest. Though they finished fourth in the American League West in 2023 and missed the playoffs yet again, they want to compete as quickly as possible. Signing major league veterans would make that more attainable. Given the ages and contract investments in Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon, they aren't looking for prospects at this time.

Whether it's the Angels or somebody else, Anderson should have no problem finding a job this offseason, but still, this last year represents a stunning fall for Anderson, who is just one year removed from being an All-Star.

Anderson led the league in runs scored during the COVID 2020 season and won the AL batting title in 2019. He's a two-time All-Star who was supposed to be one of the pillars of the White Sox organization.

Anderson had a dreadful year in 2023, hitting just .245 with one homer and 25 RBI. He was injured some of the year and only stole 13 bases also

He's still just 30 years old and could be willing to sign a one-year deal in 2024 with the hopes of hitting free agency yet again after the year.
