Toronto Blue Jays Get Positive Injury News on Pair of Critical Relievers
The Toronto Blue Jays, who are currently 5-6 on the season, got a set of positive injury updates on Monday regarding relievers Erik Swanson and Jordan Romano.
The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners on Monday night, 5-2, to run their record in the early-going to 5-6. Jose Berrios dominated on the mound and the Jays' tepid offense finally got going, chasing M's ace Luis Castillo before he failed to get through six innings.
While the win was certainly good news, there was also good news before the game as it was revealed that relievers Erik Swanson and Jordan Romano are on the mend and nearing their return.
Per Arden Zwelling, who covers the team, on social media:
Romano (forearm) threw live BP Sunday and felt good; Blue Jays still determining next steps
Swanson (elbow) pitched an inning for Dunedin Sunday; he’ll likely throw another rehab outing for Buffalo
While Toronto's pitching hasn't necessarily been the problem in the early going, it's still excellent news to know that you're going to get two premium relievers back.
The 30-year-old Swanson has become one of the best set-up men in the league, appearing in more than 57 games in each of the last two seasons. He had a 1.68 ERA in 2022 with Seattle and a 2.97 last year with the Jays. He's 8-14 lifetime with a 3.78.
As for Romano, he's one of the top closers in the American League. He's worked in 59 games or more in each of the last three seasons and had 36 saves in each of the last two. He's a two-time All-Star.
The Blue Jays and Mariners will play again on Tuesday night as George Kirby (SEA) pitches against Chris Bassitt (TOR).
