Zhang Mingyang’s promotional debut at UFC 298 ended with a highlight-reel knockout when he took on fellow debutant Brendson Ribeiro.

A veteran of Road to UFC, Mingyang didn’t get to compete in a tournament but stopped George Tokkos in the first round of their fight to earn a UFC contract back in 2022.

“Mountain Tiger” was unfortunately forced out of a planned debut against Tyson Pedro at UFC 284 last year, but at UFC 298 the Chinese light heavyweight finally stepped into the Octagon and brutally stopped Ribeiro with strikes in the opening round.

The highlight-reel knockout came immediately after Danny Barlow stopped Josh Quinlan in the third round of their fight on the early prelims, and that portion of the card also saw Oban Elliott successfully debut in the UFC with a decision win over Val Woodburn.

Mingyang is now on an impressive ten-fight win streak that dates back to 2020, and the 25-year-old has only gone to the scorecards once in a career that boasts a perfect finishing rate in his victories.

“Mountain Tiger” spoiled Ribeiro’s debut after the Brazilian upset Bruno Lopes on Contender Series 2023, and the stoppage-win was a great result to get fans hyped for the stacked UFC 298 main card headlined by a featherweight title bout between Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria.
