It all turned sour for Charles Leclerc before it even started as he lost his hydraulics on the formation lap and crashed into the race wall, meaning he couldn't take part in the race.

Luckily, the Ferrari driver was able to get the SF-23 off the track so the start of the race was not delayed. However, a turn 1 incident saw Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen collide which consequently caused damage to Nico Hulkenberg, Oscar Piastri, and Daniel Ricciardo. A red flag was put on the session as the debris was cleared from the track. Some of the teams took the time to try and repair the cars before the re-start, but Albon and Magnussen were forced to retire from the race.

Zhou Guanyu was also forced to retire a little later on. Although it is unclear at the moment as to what the issue was, it seems as though it was an overheating problem. On Lap 41, Guanyu's teammate Valtteri Bottas was also forced to retire from the race with similar suspected issues.

Lap 59 - George Russell is the next car to retire due to more overheating issues.
