Colin Cowherd Says He Turned Down Six-Figure LIV Golf Offer
Tuesday’s ground-shaking news of the merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf was as monumental as it was surprising. Since the announcement, reactions have poured in from across golf and the sports landscape at large. One of sports media’s most prominent talking heads divulged his experience with LIV Golf: Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd.
Cowherd said on his show The Herd on Tuesday that he was offered “six figures” to work with the Saudi-funded league and declined, though he made it clear that he does not fault anybody who accepted money from LIV—sports media members and golfers included.
“By the way, I was offered six figures to do some reads for the LIV Golf Tour. I didn’t accept it,” Cowherd said. “But, but, I didn’t badmouth other hosts that did. That’s the difference. I was offered six figures to do stuff with LIV Golf, I was invited to tournaments, I said ‘No, thank you.’ But I didn’t lecture sportscasters that did, I didn’t lecture anybody that did. I’m not in their shoes, I don’t pay their taxes, I don’t have their life, I don’t know what’s going on.”
Q&A: The PGA Tour and LIV Golf Have Merged. Here’s What We Know
The news of Tuesday’s merger caught everybody off guard, and the response from PGA Tour players was contentious. Former PGA Tour golfer and current Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee, who has often spoken out against LIV, said he was “hugely disappointed” upon learning about the merger. A meeting between PGA commissioner Jay Monahan and players was described as “a s— show” by one major champion who was in attendance and left early.
