Tigers say Miguel Cabrera on track with rehab from foot injury
The Detroit Tigers said former Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera is on track in his recovery from surgery on his right foot, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said that Cabrera has been doing partial weight-bearing exercises on the foot since last month and is now in a boot. The 32-year-old is due to be re-evaluated next month.

Rand said it’s too early to speculate on Cabrera’s status for Opening Day on April 6 against the Minnesota Twins, but it is known that Cabrera won’t be ready for the start of spring training next month.
Despite being plagued by lower-body injuries last season, Cabrera hit .313 and missed just three games, leading the American League with 52 doubles while clubbing 25 homers with 109 RBI. His 117 strikeouts were his highest single-season total since 2008.

Meanwhile, the reports were also positive for shortstop Jose Iglesias, who missed all of the 2014 season with shin splints. Iglesias is running sprints at three-quarter speed on hard ground with “good starts and good explosion,” according to Rand.
The Tigers won the AL Central last with a 90-72 record. They lost to the Baltimore Orioles in the Divisional Round.
