Angels News: Phil Nevin Refuses to Give Up on Jose Suarez

Jose Suarez has been a major target for Angels fans early into the 2023 season. A lot of close games have been dropped and they currently hold a 12-12 record. LA has seen a number of guys struggle to start off the year but Suarez has been one of the worst members of their pitching staff.
The Halos started off their second series against the Oakland Athletics, who had only won four games up to that point, and took a disappointing 10-11 loss. Suarez was the starting pitcher in that game and gave up five runs in just three innings.
This was the fourth time he failed to take care of business at the mound and it is starting to become a negative trend. Team manager Phil Nevin admitted that the coaching staff would have conversations about whether or not he would remain in the rotation.
However, Nevin has followed up on those thoughts and assured that the franchise still wants to maximize Suarez's talent.
We've got to make him better. That's it. There's too much potential," said Nevin. "There's too much upside in him for us to give up on him. He's somebody that's loved in that room."

Just last season with the Halos, Suarez was able to suit up in 20 games with the clubhouse and posted a 3.96 ERA. He also struck out 103 batters and served to be a reliable option.
But this season has been the complete opposite thus far. It's still very early on but he cannot keep wasting these opportunities given to hi by Nevin.
