Angels News: Rookie Nolan Schanuel Makes Franchise History Following Impressive Start to Career
The baseball world was taken by storm when it was announced that the Halos were calling up first baseman Nolan Schanuel less than six weeks after being drafted.
Since then, Schanuel has been holding down the corner infield spot and swinging a consistent bat for the Angels.
Records were broken Thursday night as Schanuel passed Darin Erstad for first on the Halos all-time list by reaching base safely in his first 16 games.
Since getting up to the Major Leagues, Schanuel has been hitting a .286 average with a .732 OPS. His plus bat along with his heads-up defense was a key part of turning the seventh triple play in franchise history.
Schanuel appeared in 21 games in the minor leagues hitting an incredible .370 batting average along with 21 walks to just 10 strikeouts. Schanuel is an on-base machine and that is what is expected out of him with the Halos.
Schanuel is in the Major Leagues to get some valuable experience that can turn into a long team stay in Anaheim if he keeps performing.
After the Halos tossed in the towel on the season waiving many of their newly acquired talent, the ballclub has been calling up other young talent like Kyren Paris so these young prospects can get big league games under their belt.
The focus for the Angels is now on the future and most likely on the shoulders of players like Schanuel and young backstop Logan O'Hoppe.
With both of them performing well for the team, this young group of players will look to have a positive offseason and a strong 2024 season for the Halos.
